You can play Yousician guitar with any real 6-string guitar, be it acoustic, electric or electroacoustic, in standard tuning.
Set up using device microphone
With an acoustic guitar, or an electroacoustic one, place your device in a comfortable spot. The built-in microphone in your device picks up the sounds you play. Double check, that you have allowed Yousician access to your device microphone. We also recommend connecting headphones, without a built-in microphone, to your device. Doing so helps improve recognition.
Set up with your guitar connected
With an electric guitar, or an electroacoustic one, you have the option to connect the guitar to your device. You can do so, for example, with a device compatible audio interface or a 1/4" to USB instrument cable (desktop). Note: If your Mac doesn't have regular sized USB ports, you may need a USB C to B adapter. If your audio interface comes with drivers, make sure to install them as well. You can find more suggested options here.
To set up an electric or electroacoustic guitar with an audio interface:
- Connect your guitar to the interface and the interface to your device.
- After your guitar is connected, you might need to change the input device. You can change it in-app, via the Advanced settings option under the Settings → Game tab.
Make sure that the correct input channel is selected when using the interface. For example, if your interface has a right and left input channel, choose the one to which your guitar is connected.
If your audio interface does not show up in the Advanced settings:
- If you're on a Mac, check "Audio MIDI Setup" on your device and make sure the interface is listed there. You can find "Audio MIDI Setup" by bringing up the spotlight search (cmd + spacebar keys) and writing "Audio MIDI Setup". If the device is not set by default, right-click the correct entry on the list and select "use this device for sound input".
- If you're using a PC, confirm that the interface is listed as part of the recognized audio devices on your Windows computer.
Also, make sure to turn up the volume to your guitar. You can see if it works by observing the MIC/VU meter while playing the guitar in the tuner screen.
With your guitar connected, adjust the Mixer feature from the in song pause menu to hear yourself play.
